Paynesville, Liberia – April 30, 2026 – The 7th Edition of the Liberia Internet Governance Forum (Liberia IGF 2026) successfully concluded at the Liberia Learning Center in Paynesville, bringing together government leaders, regulators, private sector actors, civil society, academia, the technical community, media practitioners, women leaders, and youth representatives under the theme : “Trust, Inclusion and Resilient Digital Public Infrastructure: Advancing Liberia’s Digital Transformation” Over three impactful days, participants engaged in critical discussions on Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), cybersecurity, critical information infrastructure protection, Internet affordability, digital inclusion, youth empowerment, women’s leadership in technology, data governance, and the future stewardship of Liberia’s digital resources.

The 2026 edition marked another important milestone in Liberia’s Internet governance journey, reinforcing the country’s commitment to a multistakeholder approach to digital policy development while strengthening Liberia’s contributions to regional and global Internet governance processes.

The Forum convened more than 250 participants and over 20 speakers from across the digital ecosystem, providing a neutral platform for dialogue and collaboration. Key outcomes included the adoption of the Liberia IGF 2026 Communiqué, the launch of the MyData Liberia Initiative, recommendations on .lr domain governance, discussions on Digital Public Infrastructure, and the introduction of new thematic tracks focused on youth engagement and women in technology leadership.

A major highlight of this year’s Forum was the successful hosting of the Liberia Youth Internet Governance Forum (Youth IGF 2026), which empowered young people to contribute directly to national digital policy discussions and produced a Youth Digital Policy Statement that will inform future stakeholder engagement. The Forum also introduced, for the first time, a dedicated Women in Tech Track, creating a platform for dialogue on digital literacy, leadership, mentorship, and opportunities for women and girls in Liberia’s growing digital economy.

The Liberia IGF Secretariat extends its sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MOPT) for serving as the lead government partner of Liberia IGF 2026 and for its continued commitment to advancing digital transformation and Internet governance dialogue in Liberia. Special recognition is also extended to the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) for its unwavering support, technical leadership, and active participation in discussions related to connectivity, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and the stewardship of Liberia’s national Internet resources.

The Secretariat further expresses gratitude to the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) for its strong support and leadership on issues related to digital trust, information integrity, public communication, and citizen engagement in the digital age. The Forum also acknowledges the contributions of the Internet Society Liberia Chapter (ISOC Liberia), civil society organizations, academia, media institutions, youth groups, private sector partners, and international stakeholders who contributed to the success of the event.

Speaking at the close of the Forum, Peterking Quaye, National Coordinator and Convener of the Liberia Internet Governance Forum, described the 2026 edition as one of the most impactful in the Forum’s history. “Liberia IGF 2026 demonstrated the strength of the multistakeholder model and reaffirmed that meaningful digital transformation can only be achieved through collaboration, inclusion, and shared responsibility. The quality of discussions, the level of stakeholder participation, and the practical outcomes achieved this year reflect how far Liberia has progressed in building a trusted and inclusive digital ecosystem.” Quaye noted that the Forum has evolved significantly over the past seven years, becoming one of Liberia’s leading platforms for digital policy dialogue and engagement with regional and global Internet governance processes.

“This year’s Forum moved beyond discussion to action. We saw strong commitments around Digital Public Infrastructure, cybersecurity, data governance, youth empowerment, and women’s leadership. These outcomes will help shape Liberia’s digital future and strengthen our engagement within the global Internet governance community.” Building on the momentum of Liberia IGF 2026, the Secretariat announced plans to expand stakeholder engagement throughout the year through a series of follow-up dialogues, policy consultations, capacity-building activities, and community awareness initiatives.

The Forum also confirmed its intention to strengthen collaboration with regional and international partners ahead of major Internet governance events, including the Africa Internet Governance Forum (Africa IGF) and the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (UN IGF). Additionally, preparations are underway for the MRU Internet Governance Forum (MRU IGF 2026), which Liberia is expected to host later this year, bringing together stakeholders from across the Mano River Union region to discuss common digital priorities and regional cooperation.

As Liberia continues its digital transformation journey, the outcomes of Liberia IGF 2026 reaffirm the importance of trust, inclusion, innovation, and collaboration in building a resilient digital future. The Forum once again demonstrated that effective Internet governance is a shared responsibility and that all stakeholders have a role to play in shaping a digital ecosystem that works for everyone.

The Liberia IGF Secretariat thanks all participants, speakers, partners, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters for contributing to the success of Liberia IGF 2026 and looks forward to continued collaboration in advancing a secure, inclusive, and prosperous digital future for Liberia.
