The Liberia Internet Governance Forum (Liberia IGF) Secretariat serves as the administrative and coordination body of the national IGF process. In line with UN IGF National and Regional Initiatives (NRI) best practice, the Secretariat ensures that the Liberia IGF remains:
- Open and inclusive
- Non-commercial and neutral
- Transparent and accountable
- Multistakeholder-driven
Institutional Hosting
The Liberia IGF Secretariat is officially housed within the Ministry of Posts & Telecommunications (MOPT), Republic of Liberia, which provides institutional support and coordination space for the national IGF process.
While administratively located within MOPT, the Secretariat operates in accordance with UN IGF NRI principles, ensuring:
- Multistakeholder participation in agenda-setting
- Independence of the MAG in program development
- Transparency in reporting and financial management
- Open access to all stakeholder groups
This hosting model reflects international best practice, where NRIs may be institutionally supported by government or independent organizations while maintaining operational neutrality and inclusive governance.
Role of the Secretariat
The Secretariat is responsible for:
- Coordinating preparations for the annual Liberia IGF
- Supporting the Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG)
- Managing Calls for Input and agenda development processes
- Ensuring compliance with UN IGF NRI Toolkit requirements
- Preparing and publishing final reports and financial statements
- Managing partnerships with international organizations such as ISOC Foundation, ICANN, and other global partners
- Facilitating stakeholder outreach and communications
