Official Dates Announced for Liberia Internet Governance Forum 2025: September 3–4
Monrovia – 13th-August,2025 — The Liberia Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Secretariat is pleased to confirm that IGF 2025 will take place September 3–4, with a pre-event, Liberia Youth IGF 2025, this youth track- is a formal youth summit taking place on September 2nd, 2025. In anticipation of the country’s rapidly evolving digital ecosystem, this multistakeholder platform promises to be more inclusive and impactful than ever. This date has emerged after a stakeholder meeting , with the Liberia IGF community held on 13th August ,2025 as part of the NRI handbook align process in the hosting of the national igf in each country,
“Liberia IGF 2024 was a turning point,” said Peterking Quaye, Coordinator and Convener of Liberia IGF. “Our community discussions shaped key policy directions—from digital literacy and cybersecurity advocacy to local data protection norms. This momentum now feeds into national reform, such as the Senate’s progress on the Cybersecurity and Data Protection bill.” Indeed, Liberia’s internet landscape is vibrant and growing: internet users rose to 1.65 million in early 2024, reflecting roughly 30.1% internet penetration, while mobile broadband penetration surged from 25% in 2020 to over 38% by 2023.
Liberia IGF’s influence has extended beyond national borders—active participation at the MRU IGF West Africa IGF, Africa IGF and UN IGF forums has positioned Liberia as a thought leader in West African digital cooperation. On the global stage, community representatives contributed to the UN IGF 2024 in Riyadh, including participation in the high-profile youth track, main track, Parliamentary Track, advocating for multistakeholder lawmaking in digital governance.
Under the theme “Building Digital Trust and Resilience”, Liberia IGF 2025 will spotlight emerging opportunities in AI, data protection, and digital inclusion. Sessions will integrate Women in Tech and Parliamentarian Tracks, empowering underrepresented voices and fostering legislative engagement from the outset. “This year, we’re unifying diverse perspectives—young innovators, women leaders, lawmakers, CSOs—to shape policy that is both resilient and inclusive,” Quaye commented. “Our improved broadband connectivity isn’t just infrastructure—it’s a foundation for public trust and innovation.”
The Secretariat extends profound gratitude to Hon. Sekou M. Kromah, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, whose leadership has been instrumental in steering Liberia toward digital transformation. With improved mobile coverage and broadband expansion, Liberia is laying robust groundwork for a digitally inclusive future.
Liberia IGF 2025 will culminate in the “Monrovia Commitments”—a set of actionable outcomes, from AI ethics frameworks and cybersecurity protocols to data protection roadmaps and universal access strategies. This year’s forum aspires not just to debate, but to deliver real, implementable policy solutions. Join us in shaping this journey.
